I have been busy looking after my granddaughter and helping build Arthur's house, but it is time to get back into my office. As I sit down to start, this is the scene out the window. The weather is warm (just below freezing) and there is very little snow. These deer are looking for crabapples and enjoying a nice winter. Deer have been moving north as the weather on average has warmed. Last year they took a hit with deeper snow and cold temperatures, but not so this year.
In Red Lake, we wonder about this change in wildlife. The deer bring with them ticks, brain worm and coyotes. All of these will affect the moose and woodland caribou. Woodland caribou are already stressed and few in numbers.
On the plus side, it is a wonderful to watch these deer.

Please send comments and suggestions. I will try to answer questions about ice out, the weather, fishing and the Red Lake area.
