I live in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada and my family runs a float plane service, outposts and a lodge. This is more than a business; it is a life style.
Every year, every season, every day brings something new. I try to blog about life our way.

Father and Daughter enjoy some Fishing

Jennie and Fred HedbergFred and Jennie Hedberg took enough time off for a 4 day trip to Viking Island. It was their first trip here and they seemed to fit in just fine. They fished Douglas and cooked shorelunch, portaged to Peterson climbing under and over the recent windfalls, and fished until after dark each evening.

Fred is a Dad who is very proud to take his daughter fishing.

A three generation trip to Crossland

Jack Hubeny (Grandpa) brought his son, Joe Brennan, and 2 grandsons, Aaron and Alex, to Crossland. Alex caught the most fish during their trip but grandpa landed the biggest!
"Thanks for a great trip from all of us!
Hope to see you in 2011."

In the native tradition, old buildings should just go back to the land. They should not be burnt or torn down..... Spirits may linger here.
Travellers in need are welcome.

These birds are thinking, "You guys got FISH?" This has been a summer of warm weather and late afternoon storms; sudden bursts of wind, rain and thunder. Sometimes you are on the lake, sometimes you make it home.

Always it is part of the our north country... and part of your trip.

Storm on Telescope Lake

Rob & I were canoeing across Telescope Lake this past Saturday afternoon when this storm came up behind us very quickly. We were optimistic it would pass by us without hitting us, but suddenly, within minutes, the wind picked up and bigger waves appeared. We had to struggle to make it from the middle of the lake to shore without capsizing. We made it to shore, took everything out of the canoe, flipped it overtop of the gear, and waited it out in the rain. We sat on shore, up on the hill, mixed a couple rye & gingers, and watched the storm. It passed fairly quickly and it was sunny again! As is the weather lately...sunny with a short burst of rain, and then sunny again. - Harriet
