I live in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada and my family runs a float plane service, outposts and a lodge. This is more than a business; it is a life style.
Every year, every season, every day brings something new. I try to blog about life our way.

Visitors

Arthur gave Hugh a motion sensor deercam for Christmas. When we tested it last night, we caught this guy hanging out in our yard!

Greetings from Red Lake!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holidays from the Carlsons! We hope everyone is enjoying time with family and friends, and some good food and Christmas goodies!

Hugh & I have a busy house today! Gramma (96) is over, watching slideshows and hanging out. Gwyneth brought Rhian (2) over in a sleigh, and Rhian is playing with her new IKEA kitchen. Harriet arrived from Sudbury by train two days ago and relaxing with the family. Arthur and Gwyneth's fiance Wade both had to work at the mine today, but were let free this afternoon. Henry, Arthur's siamese cat, is also at the house, playing with stocking stuffers. It is nice to have everyone together!

Red Lake is looking extra Christmas-sy. There is thick frost on all the trees, like at Norseman Park. It's chilly, but not so cold that we are staying inside. Grammas says, "Everything looks like a Christmas card outside!"

From our house to yours, SEASONS' GREETINGS!!!

oh...So Easily Distracted

Snow is falling, it's quiet outside and I am working on winter paperwork, but, oh, I am easily distracted. Right outside my window, a buck is looking for lunch. Hugh has been feeding this guy, but this is the first time I have seen him.
So far this winter, we have more snow than all of last winter. Plenty of snow fell before the ice completely froze, so we expect to find lots of slush and lousy skidooing conditions.

Orono Lake takes on the Scholz Family

Roger Scholz with his northern from Orono Lake"The highlight of each summer for the Scholz family over the last 10 years has been a fly in trip with Viking. My cousin Roger caught this nice 46 inch Orono pike in late August while drift fishing with a fly rod, which proves that mistakes will happen if you fish long enough. Uncle Jack Scholz, the coyote hunter of Ohio

During the winter we also enjoy the outdoors on our rural Ohio family farm. My Uncle Jack, pictured, has been a life long fox and coyote hunter. He usually gets 10 to 15 coyotes each year within a mile of our farm."

Hope all of you have a wonderful 2011, Viking
Thanks so much for the memories.
Jim Scholz
Note: We meet and get to know the most fascinating families over the years. We all think our own family is normal but no such family exists. When the Scholz family hits the dock in Red Lake, we brace ourselves. This is a family packed with energy and personality...doctors, space engineers, opera singers and farmers kidding and ribbing each other and all going at top speed. Thank you for including us in your life!!! Enid
