I am in Thunder Bay visiting my family. When my brother and I were kids, skiing was a big part of our life. Outside of town, there was a small volunteer ski hill. It had a rope tow, powered with an old bull dozer engine. We packed the hills with our skis. The ski shack was heated with a 45 galloon drum converted into a wood stove. At night, we lite the hill with rags soaked in keresene. We had plenty of adventures out there and it was a great life. Today, I really enjoy watching my nephew, Colin Reeves, continue the family tradition. On Saturday, he and his friends hiked up Mount McKay in Thunder Bay. It was a long hike but the adventure of testing a new slope kept them going. (photos by Zach Dunford)
Just to be clear, I did not make this trip!!

Please send comments and suggestions. I will try to answer questions about ice out, the weather, fishing and the Red Lake area.
